The Hol"ugh"days!

For the majority of us, the holidays are a difficult time of year. It is a reminder of loss. The loss of loved ones to death, divorce, lost loves, estranged family relationships - and this year, the loss of in person social gatherings.

So often we hear the non-helpful and toxic cliche --> "But they're your family!"

STOP!

Stop right there! No, they are not family. They are abusers. They stopped being "family" when they chose to abuse. Family are people who love us and show us they love us by the way they treat us. Not that they're perfect people, but their love is abundant and obvious. Family are the people who choose us and show us that they love and care about us whether we are biologically related or not.

Whether it's mental, emotional, or physical abuse--> Abuse is abuse! I'll say it again. Abuse is Abuse! It doesn't matter if it's your mom, dad, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, friend, spouse or child--> abuse is abuse.

It is a privilege to be in our life, not a right.
